After School Gardening Club – Monday
Gardening Club runs on a four week rota. We begin with Juniors, then move to Infants. It involves two, or three children from each class in turn.
Here are some of our tasks:
If the weather’s wet:
We don’t let that stop us! Instead we work in the classroom areas. We make collages, paint pictures, make drawings or research information using books, or the BBC Gardening Magazine. Sometimes we order seeds from catalogues.
In School Gardening Club – Wednesday.
Wednesday Gardening Club runs at playtime, and dinnertime. Four or six children from the same class have a turn each week. Classes follow a rota starting with Class 9 working down to Class 1.
This is what we get up to:
If the weather's wet:
Sometimes we delay our task until the next day, and hope for better weather! Alternatively we write poems, create drawings or look at our gardening books.
How can you see what we are up to?
Keep looking at this page on the website, or if you are in school look at display in the school hall. We have our own Upperwood Garden Force board.
Links with our School Council:
Each year the School Council carry out a fruit and vegetable survey during October. At playtimes and dinnertimes councillors work in pairs to discover what the children would like us to plant in the vegetable plots in the coming year. Our seed and plant ordering is based up on this, and helps the children develop number and problem solving skills.
Harvest Assembly:
During September or October we hold a whole school Harvest Assembly. Later, with help from the school cook we eat the produce we have grown. In Summer 2007 the School Council even sold some of our fruit and vegetables at Sports day.
Thank you!
We would like to say a big thank you to our FOCUS Group who donate us £50 each year. It enables us to buy our equipment, seeds and compost. We are also very proud of our Ground Force sign, which they bought for us.
Also thanks to the School Council 2007-8, who also donated £50 this year.
